Tropical DUB connection is all about creating unity and understanding through the universal language of music. This new album is a first one exploring the element of language and culture of Sri Lanka. TDC studio is located on the beautiful lush tropical south part of the island and DUB T is proud to present this one-of-a-kind adventure in signature TDC DUB steppers riddims with lyrics in “Sinhala” -a predominant language of Sri Lanka that predates the times of Christ and Buddha. It is also considered to be closest to ancient indian Sanskrit -world's oldest language..
This ep is called “SANSKRUTHIYA DUB” which translates as a Culture; as listeners can explore the depths of this amazing island's culture and rich heritage through its’ historical narratives of colonization by India, the Dutch & Portuguese as well as the British. Each track explores unifying factors like the worship of Goddess Kali. In the track “Ai awe” narrates the story of Queen Kuweni, who fell in love with the Indian prince Vijaya who was banished to the island. The prince marries the powerful queen only to leave her for a politically appropriate Indian wife, and he the banished Kuweni who leaves to the forest with her children who are the ancestry of the “veddas" the indigenous tribes of Sri Lanka who are still existing amidst cultural upheavel. The album explores the “Ramayana” where we meet one of Sri Lankas as well as the worlds’ greatest legends “King Ravana” who is said to have had the worlds first private jet, “Dandu Monara”-a peacock shaped flying vehicle..
Sri Lankans’ have an ancestral and deep connection with dance, they have a magical ability to dance in the face of all manor of troubles & tribulations and use music and dance to heal communities, Her people can smile and dance like no one is watching, and “Sanskruthiya Dub " embodies this amazingly rich culture and her beautiful people with love and respect to her history and heritage.
